Recently, The Curvy Spot had the opportunity to chat with the founder of the Curvy Closets Fashion Showcase, Dominque Revere-Lincoln & Colleen Stovall. The Curvy Closets Plus Size Fashion Showcase is taking place in Philadelphia, PA on Saturday, Sept 1st, 2012.
How did you come up with the idea for the Curvy Closets Fashion Showcase?
First we’d like to start by saying that we are truly thankful and honored to be interviewed and featured on your blog and have the opportunity to speak to your readers.
Out of pure necessity and passion for the plus size industry, came the vision for Curvy Closets. As models we’ve had an opportunity to be apart of and attend many fashion shows, and felt it our time to bring an exciting event of that nature to thePhiladelphiaarea. With there being little offered in thePhiladelphiaarea and 65% of the community’s female population being a size 14 or greater, we saw it fit and time to bring a sense of Community, Charity and Couture, to the city ofBrotherly Love!
Do you feel there is a void of plus-size events inPhiladelphia? Absolutely! With the opening of BellaNOR Boutique in the fall of 2011, there has certainly been more buzz in the city, but with the buying power and influence of the women in the city ofPhiladelphia, there should definitely be more options.
Tell me more about your event; what will make this the event to be on Labor Day weekend? Because we’re going to be there, duh! Lol…Just kidding! The Curvy Closet Fashion Showcase is the event to attend this Labor Day weekend, because we are setting up a one stop shop, filled with an eclectic mix of vendors and major players in the curvy community to Philadelphia, such as, Nina Taylor, The Face of Full Figured Fashion Week 2011 and owner of the boutique modeling group, NJC Models and jazz vocalist and plus model, Radjulari Barnes. In addition, a portion of the proceeds raised will go to benefit, Fairy Godmothers a local non-profit Organization, whose mission is to help provide a special high school prom experience for qualified high school girls whose financial situations are such as otherwise would preclude their ability to attend their prom by providing them prom gowns, shoes, and similar accessories which have been donated to the organization.
